A look back at the grain store

The building, the counter and the hall, before and after the felt went down.

The building

Front room to card hall

The card hall at full evening trade, all six tables lit
A hand of cards dealt out across the felt mid-round
A table dressed for the evening before doors open
Tea served in the dining room ahead of the first sitting
The stone frontage on Murphy Street after dark
The hall viewed from the old goods-yard doorway
The side lounge, once storage, now a quieter corner
Chips counted out on the felt at the end of a hand
The copper pot on the counter between sittings

Questions about the old building

Is the building original to the 1920s?
Most of the timber floor and loading doors are original; the felt and lighting are newer.
Was the card hall always part of the building?
No, it was fitted into the old grain floor once the store stopped trading in produce.
Can I take my own photographs inside?
Yes, in the dining room and side lounge; the main card hall is best left to house photos out of respect for other players.
